Veterans dinnerThe De Leon Women’s Division will serve its annual Veteran’s Appreciation Dinner at 5:30 p.m. in the De Leon High School cafeteria. The cost will be by donation.’Salute to veterans’Fourth- and fifth-grade students will present “A Salute to Veterans” at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Thomas Elementary School.McMurry ‘Salute’McMurry University presents “A Salute to Our Military” at 7 p.m. in Ryan Recital Hall and Amy Graves Ryan Gallery. A panel discussion titled “An Informed View of Military Experience and Historical Narratives” will be presented in the recital hall, with a 2-D and 3-D art exhibit featured in the gallery, through Dec. 3. The events are free and open to the public.

School paradeStudents and local veterans will parade through the halls of Bassetti Elementary School after morning announcements at 8 a.m..Veterans assemblyA Veterans Day Assembly will begin at 9 a.m. at Madison Middle School, featuring choir, band and orchestra performances.Veterans programA program honoring veterans will begin at 9 a.m. in the Anson ISD auditorium. ParadeThe annual Veterans Day parade will begin at 11 a.m. in downtown Abilene. Grand marshal is John Smith. For information, call 325-674-1329.Patriotic concertAbilene Christian University’s Grand Chorus will present a Veterans Day Tribute at 11 a.m. in Moody Coliseum at ACU. Admission is free. Information: 325-674-2156.Veterans Day runA Veterans Day celebration featuring a 5K run, 1.3 mile walk and 1 mile kids’ race will begin at 1 p.m. at the National WASP WWII Museum, 210 Avenger Field Road, in Sweetwater. Registration is $25 for adults, $20 for preregistered students and military and $15 for children age 12 and younger. A tailgate party begins at noon across from the stadium on Ross Street. There is no cost for game admission or to the tailgate events for these Military Appreciation Day events. Please show military ID to be admitted.Flags at cemeteryU.S. flags will be placed at graves starting at 5 p.m. at Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Families and friends of deceased veterans are invited to join other volunteers in placing flags.

Meals for veteransAll active duty military personnel and veterans with proper identification will receive free buffets from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Pizza Inn at 4138 Ridgemont Dr.Buffalo Gap exhibit
Historic Village is an exhibit titled “Letters Home.” The exhibit features letters from World War I military personnel back home to family to friends. Letters will be displayed, along with war memorabilia from West Texas veterans. Hours are noon-5 p.m. today, and then 10 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays. The exhibit can be viewed through Feb. 28. An early viewing is 11 a.m. today for current and retired military and their families, with no admission charge. For information, call 325-572-3365.
