Remembrance Sunday events in Somerton and Langport area

Services to honour the country’s war dead will be taking place in and around Somerton and Langport this weekend.

Remembrance Sunday events will be held on November 11.

  1. Poppy Appeal

The country will come together to remember those who have fallen in conflicts past and current with silent tributes at 11am.

In Somerton the town will kick off its remembrance events with a parade which will begin at the fire station at 9.30am.

The service will be held at 10am in St Michael and All Angels Church.

At 10.50am there will be a roll call and laying of wreaths at the war memorial in the Market Place.

The Kingsbury Episcopi Band will be performing at the event.

The parishes of Langport and Huish Episcopi, Aller, Drayton, High Ham, Low Ham, Long Load, Long Sutton, Muchelney and Pitney will be coming together to remember.

A service will take place at St Mary’s Church in Huish Episcopi from 10.50am.

Following this there will also be laying of wreaths at the war memorial.

Elsewhere in Curry Rivel a service will be conducted at St Andrews Church at 10.55am followed by the laying of poppy wreaths at the village’s war memorial.

Later on there will be wreath laying in Fivehead at 3pm.

In Lydford-on-Fosse service at St Peter’s Church will begin at 10.30am and there will be gathering at the war memorial for the minutes silence.

Members of the public are invited to send in pictures of remembrance events happening near them for inclusion in next week’s Western Gazette.
