Get Smart About the Civil War With Lectures, Exhibits and Living History Events

Civil War re-enactors will participate in various sesquicentennial events in Arkansas.

Lectures, exhibits and living history events are planned during November by the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission.

Events include:

  • Civil War Weekend, featuring re-enactors and combat scenarios, will be held Nov. 3 and 4 at Historic Washington State Park with a School Day on Nov. 2; call (870) 983-2684.
  • Other Voices: Civil War in the Ozarks, a free symposium on the war on the home front in the Ozarks, will be held at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History at Springdale Nov. 10; call (479) 750-8165.
  • Fought in Earnest: Civil War Arkansas, the Arkansas History Commission’s traveling exhibit, will be on display at the Arkansas State Library in Little Rock Nov. 8-15; call (501) 682-2837.
  • The Civil War in Cleburne County ACWSC historical marker will be dedicated at the Cleburne County Courthouse in Heber Springs Nov. 10; e-mail geologcabin@aol.com for more information.
  • Civil War Arkansas, 1861-1865, the ACWSC traveling exhibit, will be on display at Harmony Grove High School in Benton Nov. 12-25; call (501) 778-0133.
  • Prelude to Prairie Grove: Fall 1862 in Little Rock featuring costumed interpreters and re-enactors depicting civilians and soldiers, will be held at the Old State House Museum in Little Rock Nov. 17; call (501) 324-9685.
  • Naval Combat at West Point ACWSC historical marker will be dedicated Nov. 17 at the West Point Volunteer Fire Department in West Point; call (501) 454-1901.
  • Civil War Round Table of Arkansas will feature David Casto speaking on The Ninth Missouri Cavalry and a Forgotten Skirmish near Augusta at Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock Nov. 27; e-mail rmeadows@aaamissouri.com for more information.
