Listed Victorian building could become apartments for students

A GRADE II listed building in the city centre could be turned into student flats.

DMC Estates Ltd wants to revamp the building, in Shakespeare Street, and create 52 apartments.

It has submitted the plans to Nottingham City Council.

The building was built in about 1850 as a town house but its last use was as an adult education centre by the University of Nottingham.

It is also linked to a more modern building, which faces Peachey Street, that will also be converted under the plans.

DMC Estates Ltd has said the plans will not change the building’s character. There will be 56 rooms, each containing a bed, en-suite bathroom, cooking area and studying facilities.
