Macdonald Museum

Annapolis Valley Macdonald Museum is open Mon-Fri, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., until Dec. 14th. Permanent exhibits include the Nova Scotia Museum’s antique clock and watch collection, a Rusty Nail exhibit, a recreated classroom and general store,  a small natural history exhibit and a genealogy library (1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays). Temporary exhibits now showing are “Horsing Around”, featuring all things equestrian and a smaller exhibit “Rhythm Reels” on square dancing. Bridgetown C@P Site at 26 Bay Rd., Bridgetown, provides access to computers, the internet and printing. Hours are Mondays to Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

YW2W is designed to help participants manage symptoms and gain confidence to cope. This free program consists of 2.5 hour sessions over 6 weeks. Horsing Around Exhibit

Until October 31 “Horsing Around” exhibit at Annapolis Valley Macdonald Museum, 21 School Street, Middleton. Exhibit features equestrian art as well as information, photos, and artifacts on horses in the Valley. Phone 825-6116 for more information. Exhibit continues until October 31. Admission charged.

 

Childbirth Depression

Until December 17 The No. 1 complication of childbirth is depression.  Family Matters is partnering with Annapolis Valley Health to offer a 10-week facilitated session for women who are experiencing or are at risk of post partum depression.  Sessions are held at Family Matters every Monday morning from October 1 to December 17. Benefit Variety show

October 19 At 7 pm. West Dalhousie Community Hall. Featuring Brent and Madelyn Bauchman, Katrina Gillis and more. Free will at the door with proceeds going to Myrna Hannam to assist with expenses after the passing of her husband. Canteen and 50/50.

 

Ghost Town

Bent Family Benefit

CAPS Open House

October 21 Companion Animal Protection Society of Annapolis County is hosting its annual Paws ‘n’ Pumpkins Open House, 2 until 4 p.m. Come  “trick or treat” with our volunteers and foster animals in care at 1468 Ben Phinney Rd., Margaretsville. Help fill the animals’ Hallowe’en goodie bags with donations of food, treats and toys, litter, bleach, etc. Refreshments served and incentives offered for potential adopters. Gospel Music

Computer Instruction

Beginning October 23 The Bridgetown CAP Site (26 Bay Road, Bridgetown) will be running a month-long series of instructional classes pertaining to an introduction to computers and the internet. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12 noon for four weeks. Students learn basic computer skills, email, Skype, Facebook etc.  Cost is $50 per person. October 26 All Saint’s Anglican Church Building Committee will be holding a bake sale on Friday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Greenwood Mall. All funds raised will go towards the paving of the church parking lot.

 

Coffee And Crafts

October 27 Autumn Coffee Party and Craft Sale hosted by the Torbrook Mines United Church Workers on October 27 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Admission $5. At Three Rivers Community Centre, Messenger Road. Delicious buffet brunch; quality hand-made crafts, gourmet jams and jellies; hand-crafted jewellery.

 

Community Breakfast

October 27 The Kingston Baptist Church, Main St, Kingston, will be holding a Community Breakfast on October 27 from 8 to 10 a.m. For a free-will offering, come and enjoy a hot, delicious breakfast. All proceeds raised from this breakfast will be donated to the Kingston District Elementary School’s ‘Mornin’ Munch’ program, which provides their children a nutritious breakfast to start their day.  Everyone is welcome.

 

Phantom of the Pipes II

October 27 Annapolis Valley Centre RCCO and Kingston United Church present a concert of popular and light classical music selections featuring organists, pianists, vocalists and an accordion player, Kingston United Church, 733 Main Street, Kingston, 7:30 p.m. A free-will offering will be taken for the Organ Scholarship Fund. Museum Annual Dinner

October 27 The Mount Hanley Schoolhouse Museum Society’s annual dinner is at Port George Rec. Centre at 5:30 p.m. followed by guest speaker Paul Illsley, Cartographer at COGS, speaks on Sable Island. Breakfast Curling

Soup Luncheon

October 30 Middleton and Area Fireflies will be holding a Soup Luncheon at the Middleton Fire Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a choice of lobster chowder ($8), corn chowder ($7), or split pea and ham soup ($7), as well as “almost Black Forest” cake or pineapple upside-down cake, tea and coffee.  For local deliveries, call 825-3062 by October 29.

Arts Fundraiser

November 2 Ramp It Up! A fundraiser for a new accessibilty ramp at the Arts Council Building, (at the lights) in Annapolis Royal. Mark Friday, Nov. 2 on your calendar. Join local musicians Caleb Miles, The Blue Grass Jammers, and the JB Trio. Freewill offering fetches you dessert, coffee and wonderful tunes. Music starts at 7 p.m.

 

WWII Concert

November 2 3 Tickets are now being sold for the third annual WWII concert  with songs, snacks, desserts, at the Kingston United Church. In past years this was sold out, therefore, two nights are being offered. So don’t miss out on this event. November 2 and 3 at 7:30 p.m. Admission $ 10 each. Tickets may be purchased from any choir member or the church office 765-3621.

 

Ticket Auction

November 3 Middleton and Area Fireflies invite you to attend a ticket auction on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Middleton Fire Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will feature many gift certificates and new, or like-new, items donated by local businesses and individuals. Help us raise money for the fire department and the new fire /community hall. A canteen will be available at 11 a.m. and draws will begin shortly after 2 p.m.
