Night Out events planned for Tuesday

Crime fighters are asking residents to spend time outdoors Tuesday evening, getting to know their neighbors during local Night Out Against Crime observances.

In Slidell, several neighborhoods already have listed Night Out Against Crime gatherings with officials, who would like other groups to schedule their parties with the Slidell Police Department.

Heritage Estates Homeowners Association will have its Night Out Against Crime Block Party from 6-8 p.m. on Liberty Lane. The Association will provide hot dogs, chili and drinks for neighborhood residents; each family is asked to bring a dish to share and individual lawn chairs.

Pinecrest South Homeowners Association will have its jambalaya event from 5-8 p.m. on Hailey Avenue. Eagle Point subdivision and the WWAM Homeowners Association for Westchester Estates, Windsor, Abney and Magnolia Heights will have separate parties, both starting at 7 p.m., at  respective swimming pools.

Covington residents will have a party featuring hotdogs and a fire truck starting at 6:30 p.m. at the corner of Madison Street and West 20th Avenue. Colonna’s Pizzeria off Collins Boulevard will provide free pizza while the supply lasts.

The Mandeville Police Department also will visit participating neighborhoods to give helpful crime prevention tips and gain insight from residents into any problems specific to a neighborhood.

St. Tammany Parish gatherings are as follows: Abita Springs, Katherine Avenue and pool cabana for the Villas at Abita; Bush, Pat Fitzmorris Road; Covington, Golfers Drive and the pool area for Emerald Oaks; Mandeville, Carriage Lane on Trinity Lane, Adair Street, Quail Creek on Fairfield Drive, Marigny Trace at the Tanager Drive green space, and Slidell, Eden Isles at Eden Isles Boulevard and Windward Passage, Short Street, Belair at the pool area, Clipper Estates on Clipper Drive, Spring Hill on Wellington, Marina Drive, Ashton Oaks at Ironwood and Hawthorn, Autumn Wind at the green space and old Crossgates on Oak Leaf Drive.

Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith said Night Out is designed to increase crime and drug prevention awareness, support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts and neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. It also gives residents a chance to thank local law enforcement officers and firefighters for keeping their communities safe.
