This Week’s Key Events: Earnings Season Begins and PPI Data Hits the Street


Here is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Monday

  • There are no domestic economic reports scheduled for Monday in observance of Columbus Day. Meanwhile, AngioDynamics (NASDAQ:ANGO) is due to report quarterly earnings.

Tuesday

  • Tuesday features the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) small business optimism index. Elsewhere, Alcoa (NYSE:AA) will unofficially kick off earnings season, with Yum Brands (NYSE:YUM) also set to take the stage.

Wednesday

  • Wholesale inventories, the Fed’s beige book, and an update on the Treasury budget will hit the Street on Wednesday. Companies stepping into the earnings confessional include Costco Wholesale (NASDAQ:COST), OCZ Technology Group (NASDAQ:OCZ), and Ruby Tuesday (NYSE:RT).

Thursday

  • Thursday’s round-up will include weekly jobless claims, import and export prices, the international trade balance, and the holiday-delayed crude inventories report. Wall Street can expect earnings reports from Fastenal (NASDAQ:FAST), Safeway (NYSE:SWY), and J.B. Hunt Transportation (NASDAQ:JBHT).

Friday

  • The week concludes with the Labor Department’s producer price index (PPI) and core PPI, along with the preliminary reading of the Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan consumer sentiment index for October. JPMorgan Chase (NYSE:JPM), Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC), and Infosys (NASDAQ:INFY) will wrap up the week’s slate of quarterly earnings.
