District Level of punjab Youth and Sports festival ends
LAHORE: After a week of intense competition, the District Level of the Punjab Youth and Sports Festival came to an end and its winners were short listed to display their talent in the Divisional Level of the grand event.
The District Level, which stands fourth in the flow chart of the festival, witnessed participation of all the 36 districts of the province in 147 sporting and non-sporting events.
The fifth level of the festival, Divisional Level, will start tomorrow (Monday) in which all the nine divisions will compete in different events.
On the final day of the fourth phase, passionate sports competitions were seen among 30,929 participants. As many as 9,758 won their matches and competitions in the general category while in the education sector around 19,071 students took part in the events and 6,778 secured victory.
In Lahore division, 637 participants attended 22 events and 253 earned the trophy and a place to compete for their district in the Divisional Level.
In Lahore alone, 167 players took part in billiard, hockey, cricket, kabaddi and weightlifting events.
In the bodybuilding final of 65-kilogramme category, Muhammad Asif of Data Ganj Bakhsh Town bagged first position and Muhammad Ikram of Shalimar Town was second.
In 75-kilogramme category, Ravi Town’s Asad Ashfaq was declared first and Mustafa Shafiq of Samanabad Town attained second position.
In 75-plus category, Iqbal Town’s Yawar Ali achieved first position while Gulberg Town’s Jamshed Javed stood second.
Likewise, 1,321 students of different colleges displayed their skills in 23 sports events and 213 were declared winners. Other parts of the province also witnessed avid involvement of talented players in sporting events.
In Rawalpindi, 712 took part in 14 sports and seven non-sporting events, including dog racing, horse racing, qirat, national songs and naat khwani.
In Faisalabad, there were 265 participants up for the top honour but only 90 were declared winners. In Sahiwal, 240 players took part in different events and 118 were declared winners.
In Multan, 491 competitions were arranged in which 176 candidates achieved the top honour. In Bahawalpur, out of 240 participants 76 were declared winners.
Dera Ghazi Khan’s three districts hosted 1,338 participants with 195 winning their competitions.
In education sector sporting events, there were 16 competitions held among 317 players and 108 were declared winners; Sargodha hosted 487 players and 118 were declared winners.
In Gujranwala, 1,094 students participated in different events and 372 ended up as winners. Similar sporting events continued in Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan.
In the general category event conducted by Tourism Development Department, a total of 12 competitions were held in the major cities of the province, including Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan and Lahore. app
