Single Moms Dinner: Bring the kids and share a meal with other single moms. 4-5:30 p.m. Sunday. 

DOWNTOWN PORTLAND

Fun With Science: Middle and high school students can tour Portland State University’s Chemistry Department and participate in hands-on demonstrations. 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.

EAST PORTLAND

The Shark Riddle: Join Portland-based wildlife filmmakers Laura Sams and Robert Sams for a screening of their children’s film “The Shark Riddle,” followed by children’s activities. 2-3 p.m. Saturday.

HAPPY VALLEY

Dark Horse Comics Writers: Jeremy Barlow, Mike Richardson, Randy Stradley and Paul Gulacy celebrate “Star Wars Reads Day.” Listen to a panel discussion, have comics signed and visit with “Star Wars” characters. 2 p.m. Saturday at Barnes Noble Clackamas Town Center.

Portland Youth Spelling Bee: Kids ages 5-18 are welcome. Winners take home fun prizes, and every speller gets a treat. Sign-ups start at 12:45 p.m. Saturday; spelling starts at 1.
