Coming up in the next two weeks (1-15 October)

1-2 October, Brussels, Belgium. JOINT MEETING ON THE ECONOMICS OF LAND DEGREDATION AND ADOPTION OF SUSTAINABLE LAND PRACTICES. This two day meeting is hosted by the Economics of Land Degradation (ELD) secretariat, the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the German Ministry for Development and Economic Cooperation. Bringing together academics, political decision makers, and actors from the private sector, it will provide for inter-sectoral discussions focusing on the valuation of land and land-based ecosystem services in supporting decision making in the process of economical, environmental, and sustainable development. 8-12 October, Brest, France. INTERNATIONAL MARINE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY WEEK. The 2012 Sea Tech Week, sponsored by IEEE, will bring together researchers, technology professionals, and policymakers on oceanographic research and marine technology. The conference includes workshops and technological sessions on marine renewable energies (MRE), coastal oceanography, underwater remote sensing, and maritime e-learning. 8-19 October, Hyderabad, India. ELEVENTH MEETING OF THE CONFRERENCE OF THE PARTIES TO THE CONVENTION ON BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY. Organised by the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), this event includes consideration of the UN Decade on Biodiversity, including ways and means to support ecosystem restoration and marine and coastal biodiversity. 9 October, Brussels, Belgium. CONFERENCE: GUARDIANS OF THE FORESTS? This conference, hosted by FERN, will explore ten years of European Union innovation and achievements in worldwide forest governance and the challenges that lie ahead. 10-11 October, Melbourne, Australia. ALL-ENERGY AUSTRALIA 2012 EXHIBITION AND CONFERENCE. This conference will bring together policy makers, industry leaders, technical professionals, and academics to discuss all types of clean and renewable energy sources and technologies, including wind energy, biofuels, solar energy, marine energy and energy efficiency finance and investment opportunities. The exhibition will showcase the latest clean and renewable energy technologies and products related to electrical vehicles, utility infrastructure, ground source heat pumps, and solar, biomass and wind energy technologies. 13-14 October, Fukuoka, Japan. THIRD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS OF BANGLADESH. Sponsored by BENJapan, this conference aims to provide opportunities to share research and ideas regarding environmental aspects of Bangladesh, Japan and other regions. The event will include speakers on a number topics, including river issues and water pollution, forest and biodiversity conservation, and renewable energy. 15 October, Geneva, Switzerland. UNECE/FAO WORKSHOP “THE GREEN LIFE OF WOOD.” This UNECE-hosted workshop will examine how to promote the case for wood products, raise awareness of the potentials of wood, and market wood as a sustainable product. It will bring together experts to discuss the lifecycle analysis, carbon footprint, and environmental impact of wood products. The event aims to develop recommendations for actions and follow-up on ways to further implement lifecycle assessment to promote environmentally sustainable production, influence building material choices, and guide consumer choices in favour of the environment. 15-16 October, Hyderabad, India. CITIES FOR LIFE: CITIES’ AND SUB-NATIONAL GOVERNMENTS’ BIODIVERSITY SUMMIT. Sponsored by the Convention on Biological Diversity, this event will feature interactive dialogue between sub-national governments from across the globe. Held on the margins of the eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the meeting will discuss activities undertaken in the framework of the CBD plan of action by sub-national governments, cities and other local authorities for biodiversity, also giving these groups the opportunity to contribute to the implementation of the Convention in their respective regions. 15-19 October, Washington, US. FOURTH ANNUAL RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION: RETECH 2012. This conference, organised by the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) and endorsed by the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP), will bring together over 3000 government, industry, finance and technology professionals to discuss policy, business and technology aspects of renewable energy. The event will include in-depth sessions on government contracting, community energy finance, and renewable energy and green jobs. The conference itself is divided in four tracks: national defense and security, power generation and infrastructure, transportation and renewable energy technology. 17-19 October, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. EIGHTH SESSION OF THE UNECA COMMITTEE ON FOOD SECURITY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT (CFSSD-8). As part of the UN Economic Commission for Africa’s Food Security and Sustainable Development programme, this event aims to strengthen the capacity of member mtates to design and implement policies and programmes to reinforce linkages between food security, population, environment and human settlements so as to achieve sustainable development. 22-24 October, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. WORLD ENERGY FORUM 2012. This event seeks to bring together world leaders, international organisations, financial institutions and other stakeholders to discuss progress towards cleaner, safer and more sustainable energy as well as how to achieve universal access to modern energy services. 23 October, London, UK. THE CARBON SHOW 2012. This event, organised by the Carbon Trust and The ENDS Report, will discuss energy efficiency and the low carbon economy, bringing together sustainability professionals from industry, government, energy and finance with the goal of increasing energy efficiency and meeting the UK and European emissions targets. 27-28 October, Hong Kong, China. 2012 SECOND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PETROLEUM AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. This event, sponsored by Asia-Pacific Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering Society (APCBEES) will provide a forum for laying the foundations of a new principled approach to Petroleum and Sustainable Development. It aims to attract participants with different backgrounds and foster interaction between different research fields to expose and discuss innovative theories, frameworks, and methodologies. 29 October, Geneva, Switzerland. MEETING ON ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY FOR THE COUNTRIES OF EASTERN EUROPE, CAUCASUS AND CENTRAL ASIA. Hosted by the UNECE, this event will discuss the work of the national statistical offices and international organisations on measuring sustainable development, as well as the implications of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. The meeting will bring together officials from environmental institutions and representatives of statistical offices working in the field of environmental statistics and measuring sustainable development in the countries of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia. 5-7 November, Drakensburg, South Africa. INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FRESH WATER GOVERNANCE FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. Sponsored by the South African Water Research Commission, this conference will discuss and identify priority areas following the outcomes of the Sixth World Water Forum and the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD).
