County upset sale produces $200000-plus – Scranton Times

SCRANTON – Lackawanna County’s annual upset sale produced only $203,191 in revenue as just 40 of the 471 tax-delinquent properties that went to auction Monday at the courthouse were sold.

Tax Claim Bureau deputy director Ron Koldjeski said the 431 properties that did not attract buyers will move into the judicial sale early next year unless the delinquent taxes are paid before then.

Mr. Koldjeski said the most striking aspect of Monday’s auction is that only two of the 176 properties listed for sale in Scranton were sold, which he described as an unusually low percentage.

During the 2011 upset sale, the county sold 81 of the 364 properties listed and collected more than $450,000.
