Local home sales fell in August, but more homes have sold so far this year than the first eight months of 2011.

Last month, 148 homes sold, 19 percent fewer than in August 2011, when 183 were sold, according to a report from Indianapolis-based F.C. Tucker Co.

Johnson County was one of three central Indiana counties where home sales decreased last month. Across central Indiana, home sales were up by about 5 percent, according to the report.

Johnson County home sales have increased 10 percent for the year, compared with the same period a year earlier.

The average sale price for local homes also increased and by more than the average increase for all of central Indiana.

Last month, the average sales price for homes in Johnson County was $152,035, nearly 5 percent more than last year. In August 2011, the average sales price for local homes was $145,301, the report said.

Across central Indiana, the average sales price increased about 2 percent, from $152,441 in August 2011 to $156,105 last month.

The number of homes listed for sale in Johnson County fell by about 18 percent, with 963 homes listed for sale last month, compared with 1,175 for the same time period last year.

Across central Indiana, the number of homes listed for sale was down by about 14 percent, the report said.
