Maclin, Jackson listed as questionable

PHILADELPHIA — Jeremy Maclin said he will play Sunday, even though both he and wide receiver DeSean Jackson were listed as questionable in the Eagles’ injury report.

Jackson, who has a sore hamstring, was getting treatment and didn’t talk to the media Friday. But Maclin said his hip pointer and hip flexor strain have gotten better as the week has gone on.

The Eagles are no doubt relieved that at least one of their top receivers will be on the field when the Eagles face the Baltimore Ravens in their home opener. If both couldn’t play, the Eagles would have been left with Jason Avant and rookies Damaris Johnson and Mardy Gilyard as the only healthy receivers.

Eagles coach Andy Reid wouldn’t say for sure if Jackson or Maclin would play. Both players were limited in practice. But Reid made it seem like they would play when he was asked about a contingency plan in case they weren’t available.

“We have a plan,” he said. “We’re just going to play. I’m not even going to go there. I’m thinking positively on that.”

Maclin admitted that he was very sore Monday morning. But he felt much better by the time the Eagles returned to practice Wednesday. While the team practiced Wednesday and Thursday, Maclin got treatment. Jackson, meanwhile, hurt his hamstring during practice Wednesday. He didn’t practice Thursday.

When asked if anything between now and Sunday could stop Maclin from playing, he replied, “I feel like nothing (can stop him from playing). You still want to be careful, and obviously the injury is still there. As long as I can tolerate the pain, I’ll be alright. There are a lot of things you can do.”

The Eagles need both players against the Ravens and their ferocious defense.

If they don’t play, then the Ravens will stack their defense toward stopping running back LeSean McCoy. They might do that anyway if they determine that Maclin and/or Jackson aren’t at full strength.

“That’s when the young guys will step up,” McCoy said. “I’m sure if any of our starters went down, (the Ravens) would try to take advantage of that. There are a lot of opportunities for other players stepping up and making plays.
