Preview: Italy, Sunday

San Siro: Premio Eupili (Listed) 6f, turf, 2yo fillies

SANDREAMER (Mick Channon/Martin Harley) justified odds of 33-100 by beating eight fillies in the Listed Premio Eupili but had just a short head to spare over Grand Treasure at the line.

Having broken well, Martin Harley settled Sandreamer in the slipstream of the two leaders but was soon joined by rivals on either side.

That could have been tricky with Sandreamer having nowhere to go entering the final quarter mile but she had the ability to quicken through the gap when the leaders drifted apart approaching the final furlong.

Sandreamer ran on strongly and it was only when challenged on the outside in the final 75 yards that Harley had to wave his whip and the filly gamely saw off the threat.

Also on Sunday

Capannelle: Premio Festuca (conditions) 1m 1f, turf, 3yo+, fillies and mares

Quiza Quiza Quiza (Luigi Riccardi/Cristian Demuro) came from off the pace to beat eight opponents in a race she won 12 months ago, scoring with more authority than the half-length margin over Valvibrata might suggest.

Held up towards the rear as usual, Demuro asked his mount to go about her business nearly three furlongs out, but as in the past it took a while for Quiza Quiza Quiza to find her stride and she only took off entering the final furlong, collaring Valvibrata in the final 50 yards.

Connections will now look at a combination of three possible Group 1 targets, the Prix de l’Opera at Longchamp on October 7, the Premio Lydia Tesio at Capannelle on October 28 and the Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup at Kyoto, Japan on November 11.

Capannelle: Premio Shirocco (conditions) 1m, turf, 3yo.

Vedelago, successful in seven of his nine starts and beaten a short head by Malossol in the Italian 2,000 Guineas, finished a disappointing fourth of five, beaten four lengths behind Super Test (Marco Oppo/Samuele Diana), who had done all his previous winning in handicaps.

Returning from a summer break, Vedelago was held up in a steadily run race and could make no impression on the leaders once the tempo quickened in the home straight.

Vedelago will have another run before his probable target, the Group 2 Premio Ribot on November 4.
