Community Harvest Program
Support the St. Augustine Humane Society by dining at any Columbia Restaurant in St. Augustine during the month of September. The restaurant will donate 5% of all guests’ lunch and dinner checks to the Humane Society when chosen by customers. All customers have to do is put a check mark next to the charitable organization listed on the form provided by server and they would like the Columbia to donate 5% of their check.
Butterfly Exhibit at the Jacksonville Zoo
Butterfly Hollow features fairytale-like forest and meadow where guests will be surrounded by hundreds of butterflies. Guests will also learn about the different species of butterflies, all native to Florida. Organizers say the fictional professor Wendy Perrywhistle, a leading expert on fairies and butterflies from England, will make occasional appearances in the exhibit. General admission to the exhibit will be $2 for non-members and $1.50 for members. The exhibit opens at 9:30 a.m. each day and will remain open until a half hour prior to closing each day. This exhibit will end on September 30.
A T.Rex Named Sue
The most ferocious dinosaur that ever lived is at the Museum of Science and History. You can see Sue, the largest and most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex ever discovered through September 23. The exhibit features a dig pit, video, and guests can touch Sue’s arm, rib, tail bone and teeth. For more information on the exhibit, go to www.themosh.org.
New Exhibit at Beach Museum
The Beaches Museum and History Park will host “Lifeguard on Duty: Celebrating 100 years of the American Red Cross Volunteer Life Saving Corps in Jacksonville Beach.” The exhibit opened on September 4th. It features historical photographs and artifacts showing the work providing by the corps to Jacksonville Beach. Admission is $5 for general admission, free to museum members. “One in Three” Exhibit
“One in Three: Let’s Solve the Dropout Crisis”, exhibits of photographs are on display in the Atrium of City Hall. The traveling exhibit will be on display through September 24th. It features photographs by Jacksonville’s Ingrid Damiani. It shows the challenges and successes of local students.
Grief and Loss Support Group
Haven Hospice is hosting a grief and loss support every Tuesday beginning September 18. It will be held at its St. Augustine office on Southpark Boulevard in St. Augustine. The group meets at 10:30 a.m. to noon. This group will meet through October 23.
