The former Carriage RV manufacturing facility at 230, Wabash Street, in Millersburg, Indiana was listed for sale this week by Indianapolis-based Key Auctioneers – a specialist in real estate and business asset disposition. The 55-acre lot in Elkhart County features a total of 440,000 square feet of building space comprised of 20 buildings ranging from 2,000 to 164,000 square feet. According to the auctioneers the fully fenced campus has a mix of office, warehouse, production and maintenance space.
The physical assets of Glen Cushman’s Millersburg, Indiana-based Carriage Inc., a 45-year-old luxury fifth wheel RV manufacturer, were sold at auction by Myron Bowling Auctioneers Inc., on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. The sale included Carriage Inc.’s name; fifth wheel brand names; phone number; website and other intellectual property along with 52 finished and work-in-process Carriage RVs, metal fabrication and woodworking equipment, raw materials, and a variety of other tangible assets. The Carriage RV Inc., intellectual property was acquired by towables manufacturer Redwood Residential Vehicles, a division of Thor Industries Inc., for $100,000.

Carriage RV Inc. – founded in 1968 by Wilbur Witmer, Ray Stutzman, George Kurtz and C.T. (Clarence) Yoder – manufactured RVs for close to five decades. The company’s first products were two lines of travel trailers, named the Carriage and the Rolls International, and the company subsequently expanded its portfolio to include conversion vans, Class C motorhomes, custom park models for Anheuser-Busch, and fifth wheels. In 2005, the company decided to focus solely on its four lines of high-end fifth wheels; The Cameo, The Cabo, The Carri-Lite and Royals International.
Carriage RV Inc – which had struggled financially for some time – closed its doors on October 18, 2011. The company was subsequently wound up at the behest of its primary creditor, PNC Bank.
