1-7 September, Naples, Italy. WORLD URBAN FORUM 6. The theme of this forum, jointly by UN-Habitat, the Government of Italy, the Campania Region and the City of Naples, will be “The Urban Future.” It will examine rapid urbanisation and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change, and policies. 3-7 September, Hanoi, Vietnam. SECOND GLOBAL CONFERENCE ON AGRICULTURE, FOOD SECURITY AND CLIMATE CHANGE. This event is co-organised by the Governments of Vietnam and the Netherlands, in collaboration with other partners, including the World Bank and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO). It will include a High-Level Meeting and will be organised around the theme “Hunger for Action.” This event aims to set new and more concrete priorities for action while demonstrating early action on climate-smart agriculture as a driver for green growth. 6-15 September, Jeju, South Korea. IUCN WORLD CONSERVATION CONGRESS 2012. This IUCN event, which takes place every four years, will explore environmental and development challenges from a “Nature+” perspective; examples include, Nature+climate, Nature+livelihoods, Nature+energy, and Nature+economics. It aims to bring together the world’s conservation community to discuss how nature is linked to solutions for today’s pressing sustainable development challenges. 10-11 September, Brighton, UK. TRANSITION TO LOW CARBON ENERGY SYSTEMS: WHICH PATHWAYS TO ENERGY ACCESS FOR ALL? This workshop is organised by the Low Carbon Energy for Development. The event will reflect on the outcomes of the UN conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), and consider how low-carbon development can simultaneously address energy access, poverty reduction, human development, and economic growth. The goal of the workshop is to identify and discuss questions that need to be answered to meet the UN goal of “sustainable energy for all.” For more information, please visit the UKCDS website.
12-14 September, Issyk-Kul Lake, Kyrgyzstan. 3RD INTERNATIONAL FORUM ON ENERGY FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. This event – organised by The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia Pacific (UNESCAP) – will include thematic workshops on policies and legislation to promote energy efficiency and clean energy technologies in Central Asia; energy efficiency in buildings; foreign direct investments (FDI) in advanced fossil fuel technologies; case studies on energy efficiency financing; and promotion of advanced energy efficiency technologies. 13-14 September, Bournemouth, UK. INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TOURISM AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. This conference, hosted by Bournemouth University, will explore the relationships between climate change, sustainability, and tourism and will examine international responses to these issues. 17-21 September, Paris, France. SECOND ITU GREEN STANDARDS WEEK. This event, organised by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and TechAmerica Europe, aims to bring together policy-makers, engineers, government officials, regulators, standards experts, among others to raise awareness of the importance and opportunities of using information and communication technology (ICT) standards to build a green economy. The week will include forums on Greener Smarter Better Cities, Boosting Smart Grids through energy efficient ICT, Environmental Sustainability for the ICT Sector and, among other issues, greening the ICT Supply Chain. 26 September, Geneva, Switzerland. 3-5 October, New Delhi, India. COOL BUILDINGS AND COMMUNITIES CONFERENCE. This conference will bring together government officials, industry representatives, and green building and sustainability experts. It aims to launch a new non-profit organisation focused on deploying cool, efficient policies and technologies, and launch a new network of global cities that are committed to reducing urban heat to promote sustainability. 8-9 October, Pretoria, South Africa. WORKSHOP ON TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS FOR A LOW CARBON SOCIETY. This two-day workshop will discuss topics such as the water-energy-food nexus, technology and economic growth, smart grids, solar power, and low carbon innovations for poverty alleviation.
