Labor Day means the unofficial end of summer, and there are dozens of local events this weekend to help you end the season with a bang. From fireworks displays to outdoor concerts to antique fairs and apple picking, here are our picks for holiday events, listed below by region (Westchester, Rockland or Hudson Valley) and date.

Green Corn Festival in Sleepy Hollow: Storytelling, folk music and hands-on children’s activities will bring Native American culture and history to life for kids at this lively annual festival (10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday-Monday, Aug. 31-Sept. 2). Friday, Aug. 31:
Jazz, Blues More in Yonkers: Listen to New Orleans party band, Jambalaya, as part of the Jazz, Blues More at Dusk concert series on the Yonkers waterfront (6:30-8 p.m.). Kick back and watch the Hudson River transform into majestic shades of blue and purple as dusk creeps up on the evening. After the concert, visit award-winning restaurants like Dolphin and X2O Xaviars on the Hudson, all located within walking distance of the amphitheater. Fireworks at Rye Playland: Rye Playland is making this season’s last call for fireworks (9:15 p.m.). After catching a couple of thrills on the amusement rides, sit back and watch the last colorful pyrotechnic show of the season. Monday, Sept. 3:
Labor Day Chess Tournament in Katonah: Families, gather your chess pieces and your wits and head to the Main Barn for the 38th annual John Jay Homestead Labor Day Chess Tournament (9 a.m.-4 p.m.). This is an all-ages event with both child and adult competitions. Pack a lunch and a drink. Tuesday, Sept. 5:
Labor Day Antiques Fair in Katonah: Check out beautiful heirlooms at the 28th annual Labor Day Antiques Fair in Lasdon Park (10 a.m.-5 p.m.; last admission at 4:30 p.m.). About 70 tents spread across the 234-acre property will house tons of old treasures, including vintage costume jewelry and Persian rug pillows. There will also be a plant sale and live entertainment. Greg Behrendt at Levity Live: One of the reasons “He’s Just Not That Into You” became an even more popular phrase as of 2004 can be traced to stand-up comedian Greg Behrendt, who brings his show to Levity Live (8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30; 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 31; 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 1; 7 p.m. Sept. 2). But long before he co-wrote the bestseller of that name with fellow “Sex and the City” contributor Liz Tuccillo, Behrendt was a comedy club mainstay, and he has been at it ever since. Friday, Aug. 31:
Hopper Happens outdoor cinema in Nyack: Although the Hopper Happens multimedia festival, a celebration of Nyack’s own Edward Hopper, wrapped up on Aug. 24, the Edward Hopper House Art Center will screen a final film to wrap up the related “Backyard Cinema” film series. “The Night of the Hunter,” a 1957 film inspired by Hopper’s work, will be screened at sunset (around 8:30 p.m.). A slide show of the June 16 Nyack Flash Sketch Mob will precede the film. Bring a picnic and a blanket to enjoy the outdoor screening. The rain date is Saturday, Sept. 1. Saturday, Sept. 1:
Dr. Davies Farm opens for apple picking in Congers: Take your pick. There are 4,000 trees on this 35-acre farm, which opens to the public for apple picking on Labor Day weekend (open 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. daily). Buy a half-bushel bag and fill it to the brim with freshly picked apples. You can pack a lunch and have a picnic in the fields or stop into the farm stand for fresh fruit, vegetables and pressed cider. Wagon rides are available, too. Labor Day Concert in Haverstraw: Bring a lawn chair to Bowline Point Park for the Town of Haverstraw Labor Day Concert (5-9 p.m.). The Courtney, Greene, Schultz Band and the Mighty Spectrum Band will take the stage for an evening of good music and even better company. Free cap giveaway and kids run the bases at Provident Bank Park: Be among the first 1,500 fans to arrive at Sunday’s Rockland Boulders game against the Lincoln Saltdogs and receive a free cap to take home (5 p.m.). After the ballgame, kids ages 14 and under are invited to get a taste of professional baseball and run around the bases. Open bounce in Valley Cottage: Got some energy to burn? Why not bounce it off? Jr.” section exclusively for the under-6 set, with its own trampoline court, foam pit and inflatable castle. Harvest Kickoff in Poughquag: Rock out to bands Thunder Ridge and Hot Rod during the 2012 Harvest Kickoff weekend at Barton Orchards (9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday-Monday, Sept. 1-3). Attractions include hayrides, a petting zoo, a corn maze and inflatables for kids. You can also pick your own fruit, vegetables or flowers. On Saturday, the orchards will reopen after sunset for an 8:30 p.m. fireworks display. On Sunday, the orchards will reopen at dusk for flashlight night at the corn maze. The show, which is celebrating its 42nd year, will draw thousands of bargain hunters to discover collectibles and new merchandise. No dogs are allowed. Art Craft Fair in New Paltz: Check out the wares of more than 300 artists and crafters at the Woodstock-New Paltz Art Craft Fair at the Ulster County Fairgrounds (10 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 1-2; 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday, Sept. 3). While vendors exhibit and sell their creations, kids can visit the supervised children’s area filled with tons of age-appropriate activities. Toddlers on the Trail in Gardiner: Tots 2-6 and their parents are invited to gather at the Mohonk Preserve Spring Farm Trailhead for a guided, 1.5-mile hike (10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 31). The toddler-paced walk will take about two hours, giving little ones ample time to explore the fields and visit a replica of a Lenape longhouse. Bring water and snacks. No strollers.
