Nick Montgomery and Richard Cresswell’s futures lay away from Bramall Lane with the pair transfer listed.

Danny Wilson, as he told The Sheffield Star, confirmed that the experienced duo are available due to them not fitting into the moves to “nurture the young players” from now on.

The Blades boss also confirmed no interest has yet been shown: ‘They are top lads, but it’s a decision that’s had to be made.

‘We’ve not had any interest in them at the moment, but obviously the window is open until the end of the month.

‘The position the club is in isn’t easy and we’ve had to make the decision to nurture the young players.’

You can’t beat experience in your side but if they don’t feature in Wilson’s long-term plans you can’t select them. The drawback is they will continue to be paid if they play or not and they must be among the top earners at the club, which is probably another decision behind the moves to move them on.

Both could do a job at this, or a higher level, so you’d expect some interest before the transfer window closes.
