Gilda’s Club Delaware Valley, part of the cancer support community, has released its calendar of events for September. The programs listed below are free and take place at 200 Kirk Road in Warminster, unless otherwise noted.

“Living with Loss Support Group: Dinner a Lecture: Understanding Loss Grief,” Sept. 4, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. — Holy Redeemer Home Care Hospice will be providing dinner and a speaker, Eileen McLaughlin. This is open to all members and the public.
“Cooking Demo/Workshop: Food for Life with Sheryl Wolff,” every Thursday in September, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. — Numerous studies have shown that a diet built from plant foods offers the most cancer-fighting protection of any diet plan. This four-class series will include a discussion on maintaining a healthy weight and will also cover a variety of cancer-related nutrition topics, demonstrating how to prepare delicious yet simple and healthy meals that can easily be recreated at home.
“Frankly Speaking about Lung Cancer with Dr. Youssef,” Sept. 11, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. — Dr. John Youssef provides fundamental information about the most current lung cancer treatments, strategies for symptom/side-effect management and tools for survivorship. Dr. Youssef practices at Medical Hematology/Oncology Associates in Langhorne. A complimentary book, “Frankly Speaking About Cancer: Lung Cancer,” will be provided, and dinner will be served.
“Eating for Emotional Healing with Susie Beiler,” Sept. 13, 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. — What you eat feeds more than your physical body; it feeds your mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies. Food is a critical pathway to recovering from the diagnosis of cancer. Beiler, a certified holistic health counselor and licensed occupational therapist, will be lecturing on which types of foods will nourish you emotionally and which ways of eating will heal you on a deeper level.
The 3rd Annual Alex Boyes Memorial 5K Run/3K Walk, Sept. 15, Registration 8 a.m., race begins at 9 a.m. — This event is held in memory of Alex Boyes (1987-2009), who lost his fight with melanoma. Contact Beth at 215-441-3290 x104 for more information about this event.
Train Run and Swap Meet Fundraiser to Benefit Gilda’s Club, Sept. 15, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. (Rain date Sept. 22) — Individuals and clubs are welcome to come run G gauge trains on the longest garden railroad in Bucks County. Dinner a Lecture Provided by Leukemia Lymphoma Society, Sept. 18, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. — LLS will be providing a speaker for the blood cancer group in honor of Leukemia Lymphoma Awareness month. This lecture is open to all members and the public. Dinner will be served.
“Frankly Speaking about Breast Reconstruction with Dr. Lam,” Sept. 18, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. — Women with breast cancer and their loved ones are invited to this new, national patient education program, which streamlines information for women diagnosed with breast cancer to emphasize options and tools for decision-making around breast reconstruction and also post-reconstruction. Dinner will be served.
Youth Activities Committee, Sept. 26, 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. — Middle school and high school teens meet to plan volunteer opportunities at the Warminster club house. Kid Support, beginning Oct. 2 — A 10-week peer support group for kids ages 4-12 whose lives are affected by cancer. Gives kids the opportunity to talk together, to learn together and support each other. There is also a group for parents.
