New proposals put forward for listed building

SCALED-DOWN plans to build a house next to the historic Homestead, in Spondon, have been submitted to Derby City Council.

Andrew Rutherford last year proposed to build two detached homes in the grounds of the grade one-listed house, which is owned by his father Alan.

Objections were lodged by residents and Derby Civic Society, concerned the development would ruin the setting of the listed building which would then impact on the Georgian home.

Mr Rutherford withdrew that application but has come back with revised plans and a listed building application.

The new proposals are for just one home in the grounds.

It would be two storeys high with a cellar and would have four bedrooms. On the ground floor would be the lounge, kitchen, dining room and study. The cellar would be used as either a games room or home cinema.

A car port would be built as part of the application and sections of an historic wall would also be rebuilt.

A decision on the application is due to be made before the end of September.
