Schedule: Iowa City Has Six National Night Out Events Tuesday Night

Six “National Night Out” parties are scheduled in Iowa City tomorrow night throughout the city, with one major party in Wetherby Park, and five other parties at addresses listed below.

The events will include live music, free food and beverages, and a variety of kid-friendly events are scheduled, according to an Iowa City Police press release. Herky, the University of Iowa mascot, and McGruff the Crime Dog, will also make their appearances at all of the events.

The main event will be held at Wetherby Park, 2400 Taylor Drive, from 4 to 7 p.m. Live music will be provided by Kevin Burt from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Activities will include: face-painting, a bicycle rodeo and repair station, bike raffle, kids’ backpack give-away, a community art project, tours of fire trucks, police cars, and ambulances, family fun in the park’s splash pad, and numerous handouts and gifts provided by the Iowa City Police Department and Target.

Five other Block Parties, Starting at 6:00 p.m. 

Iowa City Police Officers will be attending all of these parties to meet neighbors, distribute safety information and give gifts to children. Herky and McGruff will also mosey on down to each of the block parties.

This is the 29th year for the event which is intended to bring communities closer together with the police department. More than 15,000 cities will be taking part in National Night Out tomorrow.
