Tailback Daniel Thomas is Reggie Bush’s backup. Behind Bush and Thomas are Steve Slaton, former UM standout Lamar Miller and Marcus Thigpen.

Thigpen, a former CFL standout, is also listed as the team’s top kick returner, with Miller and Slaton as his backups. And Thigpen is Miami’s second-team punt returner behind Davone Bess.

Observations

The Dolphins’ offense scored six touchdowns during the team’s goal-line drill, taking advantage of the second- and third-team defense. Moore threw three touchdown passes during the session, which put the offense on the 5-yard line. … The offensive line consistently opened running lanes for tailbacks during a four-minute drill, which called on the offense to kill the clock by running the ball. … OG John Jerry has been demoted to the third-team offensive line.

Who’s up?

All three of Miami’s top cornerbacks — Smith, Davis and Marshall — had strong practice performances. Smith shutdown Johnson most of the day. Davis and Marshall both had a couple of deflections and each picked off a Garrard goal-line pass.

Who’s down?

The tailbacks fumbled a couple of times. The Dolphins continue to have ball security issues that carried over from Saturday’s scrimmage.

“Very disturbing, you can’t win football games with the ball on the ground,” Philbin said.

Injury update

WR Clyde Gates participated in Monday’s practice on a limited basis. … DE Tony McDaniel continues to practice with his right thumb in a removable cast. … G Ray Feinga did not participate in Monday’s practice and Philbin said his absence was excused.
