ULVERSTON has been hit by a prolific graffiti artist – who even targeted a Grade II listed building.
The vandal, who is using the tag “Trix”, has caused damage to private and public property, including cars and a children’s play area.
Ford Park was particularly badly hit and despite efforts to remove the graffiti the tag can still be clearly seen on the wall of Grade II listed Ford Park House.
Jackie Williams, centre and development manager at Ford Park, said: “We have had five or six tags in the park.
“We have managed to clean a lot of it off but of course it is expensive what we have to use.
“The worst bit was on our Grade II listed building where it soaked into the wall.
“It is disappointing, I have to say.”
Police are investigating the series of graffiti attacks, the latest of which occurred overnight between Wednesday July 18 and Thursday July 19.
On that occasion 10 separate incidents were recorded and police say some victims have been targeted more than once.
PC Paul Kelly, from Ulverston Police, said: “We believe that one person is responsible for this ‘tag’ and I am appealing to members of the community to help us track this person down.
“The person who is responsible for this mindless damage may be oblivious to the amount of distress that this is causing members of the local community.
“Painting graffiti causes damage and it is a criminal offence.’’
Police have called on residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour.
Mrs Williams added: “The tags at Ford Park all say ‘Trix’ – it is ridiculous.
“Although I have to say that vandalism in the last few years at Ford Park has reduced remarkably.
“It is unfortunate but we are lucky it is not as bad as what happened in Croftlands.
“Trix is one individual but there are a lot of other young people making a positive contribution.”
Anyone with information that may help the investigation should contact Paul Kelly at Ulverston police station on 101.
