Taipei, July 5 (CNA) Peng Ai-chia, wife of detained former Cabinet Secretary-General Lin Yi-shih, has been listed as a defendant in the corruption case involving Lin, prosecutors said Thursday.
The Special Investigation Division (SID) under the Supreme Prosecutors Office said Peng was charged on suspicion of violating the anti-corruption act, money-laundering act and the criminal code.
She was charged with concealing illicit gains, hiding other people’s illicit gains from major criminal acts and covering up criminal evidence — the same charges brought against her mother-in-law Shen Juo-lan.
Shen was listed as a defendant a day earlier, but was releasedon a NT$2 million bond. Peng was also released, on a NT$1 million bond.
The corruption scandal erupted after Chen Chi-hsiang, owner of Ti Yung Co. in Kaohsiung, accused Lin of accepting bribes from him.
Lin has confessed to having accepted NT$63 million in bribes from Chen to help him secure a contract with China Steep Corp., a publicly listed company in which the government has a controlling stake.
