The events programme at Christ Church Cathedral offers something for everyone this coming Saturday and Sunday. David Syme, pianist, (pictured above), on his first visit to the Cathedral, will play the Coffee Concert on Saturday 7th at noon with Thomas Heywood, organist, (right), making a very welcome return at 8pm that same evening. On Sunday 8th at 7pm, St. John’s Newfoundland Choir (top), will perform in a very special concert celebrating the friendship shared between Ireland and Newfoundland. Details of all three concerts are listed below and all events at Christ Church are free to children under 14.

American piano virtuoso David Syme, now resident in Ireland, has had a long and colourful career. Since arriving in Ireland in 2005 he has been steadily forging a reputation as one of the finest pianists to grace these shores. He is best known for his “Living-Room Concerts”, held about 25 times a year in his West Cork home on the Beara Peninsula.
He has performed in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Wigmore Hall and many major European cities. An alumnus of Juilliard and Indiana University, he was a protégé of the legendary Jorge Bolet. His recordings include performances with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony and the Czech National Symphony. His program will feature works of Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven, and Rachmaninoff with favourites such as “Clair De Lune” and “Rhapsody in Blue”, as well as some Irish selections.
