(RTTNews) – A crypt which briefly housed the corpse of Elvis Presley was listed as on the block by Julien’s Auctions before an outcry from enraged fans halted its sale.

“YES WE DID IT!!” read the website ElvisMatters.com, which was behind the protest. “We have just proven that fans can stand united!”

“With the effort of ElvisMatters, the help of fan clubs all over the world and the support of over 10,000 fans who signed our petition, the crypt will remain empty – as it should!”

A rep from Julien’s said the house is attempting to find “a plan that best suits the interests of the fans while respecting and preserving the memory of Elvis Presley.” In the meantime, the crypt will remain vacant.

Elvis is currently interred at his Graceland mansion in Memphis.
