Brixton Splash Festival Volunteers Request

THIS EVENT IS TAKING PLACE IN: London at , SW2 1JQ on August 05, 2012 and organised by: Brixton Splash

Brixton Splash is a free community street festival led by the local community. Each year it gets bigger and more support is required, so we’re looking for more volunteers. The event is aimed at celebrating the area’s diversity, its progress through the years and the fusion of the numerous ethnic groups that now call Brixton home. It is a celebration of peaceful relations, vibrant living in Brixton and Brixton’s contribution to the wider London culture. Want to be a volunteer at this great event then send an email to splash.brixton@gmail.com and we’ll take it from there. Brixton Splash 2012

Brixton Splash is a cultural explosion held annually on the first Sunday of August every year. The successful Street festival has grown each year and in 2010 included one main stage for local talent, 4 street sound systems playing everything from Reggae and Rocksteady to Dubstep and Jungle, and an arts and crafts area in St Matthew’s Peace Garden for the very first time. It truly is an advert for multiculturalism, with something for everyone to enjoy and participate in.

Brixton is an area with a wealth of artistic talent, and when you visit the event there is every chance that the people you see on stage will go on to become the next big thing. For example, in 2010, Katy B headlined the event performing with the Illersapiens. She went onto be one of 2010′ biggest hits, releasing two singles in the UK top ten, ‘Katy on a mission’ featuring Benga, and ‘Lights Out’ featuring Ms Dynamite.

This year’s theme in honour of the Jamaica 50 celebrations is ‘Out of Many, One People’.

We are delighted that this year’s event has been listed on the Jamaican High Commission’s Official Events Calendar for the celebrations of Jamaica 50. This year’s event will celebrate this special anniversary and its connection to the Brixton Community in a wide variety of ways.

‘Made in Jamaica’ – Jamaican National one of longest standing and proudest supporters of Brixton Splash will be creating a showcase for Brixtonians and visitors alike to come and sample the finest that Jamaica has to offer in food, drinks and produce.

Watch this space as we confirm artists, stalls and activities for the day that will ensure that Brixton is the very heart of Jamaica 50 celebrations.
