Memorial Day Events in the Northland

1. Army National Guard veteran Specialist First Class Ian Lambert will deliver the keynote address at Memorial Day ceremonies in Hayward Monday, May 28 at 10:30am at the Greenwood Cemetery. A Memorial Day service will also be held at the Greenwood Cemetery at 1pm. In case of rain, services will be held at the Veterans Community Center at 10:45 a.m.
2. Also in Hayward, WI, the LCO AmVets Post 1998 will be conducting a Memorial Day program at the LCO Veterans Monument in front of the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Headquarters on Trepania Road. LCO AmVets will participate in the Hayward parade and the Shue’s Pond ceremony at 10:15 a.m. The AmVets invite everyone to the special ceremony at LCO around 11a.m.
3. Iron River, WI will be holding multiple Memorial Day services to honor the nation’s deceased veterans. From 8am to noon, there will be a Ladies Auxiliary Pancake Breakfast at the VFW Post 10197 off Highway 2 in Iron River. Services include:
– Everest Cemetery in Waino, WI at 8:30am
– Lutheran Cemetery in Oulu, WI at 9am
– Hillcrest Cemetery in Oulu, WI at 9:30am
– Pine Glade Cemetery in Oulu, WI at 10am
– Tripp Cemetery in Tripp, WI at 10:45am
– St. Michael’s Cemetery in Iron River at 11:30am
– City Cemetery in Iron River at Noon
– St. Florian’s Cemetery in Ino, WI at 12:30pm
4. The Gary New Duluth Veterans Memorial will be rededicated with a special ceremony on Monday May 28, 2012 at 9:00 AM at its original site on the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and Stowe Street. St. Louis County Attorney Mark Rubin will MC the event, and Mayor Don Ness will be one of the keynote speakers.
5. The Summer 2012 Concert Tour kicks off on Memorial Day with the Superior Singers. The group will be singing patriotic songs at the Bong Veterans Historical Center in Superior, WI at 1pm.
