Hunterdon Drug Awareness Program (HDAP) held their 17th annual Golf Classic fundraising event May 7 at Oak Hill Golf Club in Holland Township.

Proceeds will go toward providing financial assistance to people in Hunterdon County who are in need of alcohol or outpatient and intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment services and may not have the financial means to get the help they need.

Scramble format Flight One winners were Ken Harding, Bill Palleria, Carl Nosenzo and Joe Salema with a 66. Flight Two winners were Jim DeVito, Peter Cangelosi, Mike Ruth and Lou Livoti with a MC 73. Flight Three winners were Mike Griffin, John Van Blarcom, Lyle Garcia and Peter Tarricone with a 78. The most-honest foursome prize went to first- time golfer Glenn Duncan and his team of Fred Wesolowski, Abid Khaleel and Shaun Finn who shot an impressive 95.

Other prizes included longest drive male and female and closest to the pin on all Par 3 Holes. No one took home either of the hole-in-one prizes which were offered by Flemington Furs and Flemington Car Truck Country.

The Board of Directors and staff of HDAP said they “thank everyone who supported our fundraising efforts by either playing, being a corporate sponsor, purchasing course signage, advertising, or donating cash or prizes. Given recent funding cuts HDAP and other treatment programs have received from the state of New Jersey, fundraising support is all the more beneficial to ensuring we are able to meet the needs of our community.”

HDAP has been treating clients and family members who suffer from chemical dependency problems since 1977. HDAP started with a concerned group of south Hunterdon residents and county officials who felt the area needed a substance abuse treatment facility. In 1977, the group opened as a subsidiary of NARCO (which is now called Institute for Human Development, IHD). In 1981, they separated from NARCO and became incorporated as Hunterdon Drug Awareness Program. NARCO and then HDAP were first located in Lambertville, with the organization moving to Flemington in 1984 to better serve the whole county.

The agency provides outpatient and intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment and prevention education programs. For information call 908-788-1900 or on the web at hdap.org. To view pictures from the golf classic, visit the website and click on “Events.”
