Listed hall with period charm… and even a teenagers’ retreat

T HE Old Hall in Scarrington has been home to the present owner for the past 40 years. Lovingly renovated, it retains period features and offers character, style and substantial accommodation.

Grade II listed, the house is set in beautifully manicured gardens of around half an acre and has a sweeping gravel driveway that leads to a detached garage block and a self-contained cottage/ annexe that the owner has built with reclaimed bricks.

The hall is reputed to be one of the oldest properties in Scarrington and stands next to the village church, with an outlook over open fields.

Accommodation is arranged over three floors, although the owners live on the ground and first floors and the second floor is used as storage or occasional bedrooms for visitors.

In all, the cottage, main house and garage boast more than 5,000 square feet of floor area.

The main house features a large open-plan kitchen leading to a family room, beautifully fitted in solid-oak crafted cabinets with Chinese slate flooring. There are four other reception rooms, including a beautiful garden room off the main drawing room.

On the first floor are three double bedrooms, an en suite and a family bathroom, with three further bedrooms on the second floor, creating a potential for six bedrooms in all.

Joanne Davies, of selling agents Richard Watkinson and Partners, said: “The property has oil-fired central heating and is full of character, with heavily beamed ceilings and period fireplaces. The detached cottage and garage complex has a multitude of uses for a dependent relative, for example, or accommodation for teenagers or a nanny.

“It could also be potentially let to provide an additional income as it is some distance from the main house.”

There are two sets of double gates, providing vehicular access from Hawksworth Road on to two gravel driveways, one leading to the garage and cottage and the other sweeping round to the front of the property, providing plenty of parking space.

The gardens are immaculately tended, featuring mature trees and shrubs, and back on to open fields. They provide a good degree of privacy and seclusion and when the high timber gates are shut, the property is totally enclosed.
