Several local high school track and field athletes are listed in the top 18 in their respective events in this week’s MaxPreps standings. The top 18 performers at the end of the regular season qualify for their respective state tournaments.
Among Class 3A boys, five La Junta athletes are listed.
Joseph Jaramillo is third in two events as he has a time of 11.33 seconds in the 100-meter dash and a time of 22.63 in the 200.
Zerek Jones is ranked in three events as he is fifth in the 400 in 50.92, seventh in the 800 in 2:02.28 and he is tied for 12th in the high jump at 5-11.
Audie Fouracre is ranked seventh in the 100 in 11.38. He is on the outside looking in in the triple jump, as he is 19th at an even 40 feet, 1.25 inches from being in the top 18.
Two more Tigers are in the top 18 in the weight events. Josh Mosher is 17th in the discus at 127-1 and Dustin Gabehart is 18th in the shot put at an even 43 feet.
La Junta is 10th in the 4×200-meter relay in 1:34.26. It is 20th in the 4×100 in 46.43, 0.50 seconds from the top 18.
In Class 3A girls’ events, La Junta’s Chelsea Applehunt is 15th in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.58. Her sister, Ashley, is 25th in the 300 hurdles in 52.47, 0.88 seconds out of the top 18.
In relay events, the Lady Tigers’ 4×100 team is 16th in 54.18. The 4×200 team is 20th in 1:53.65, 0.13 seconds from the top 18.
In Class 2A boys, Swink has three athletes in the top 18 in their events.
Cole Grenard is ranked in two events as he is 16th in the triple jump at 38-11 and 18th in the long jump at 19-0.
Jerod Berg is 13th in the shot put at 42-1 and Dante Estrada is 18th in the 300 hurdles in 45.56.
The Lions’ 4×800 team is 14th in 9:14.02.
Two other Lions are close to the top 18 as Andy Bartolo is 21st in the 800 in 2:11.27, 0.34 seconds out, and Taylor Parker is 21st in the 300 hurdles in 45.69, 0.13 seconds from qualifying and 24th in the 200 in 24.56, 0.18 seconds from qualifying.
The Swink 4×100 team is 20th in 48.34, 0.47 seconds from qualifying.
Rocky Ford has two athletes in the top 18.
Cody Dell is 7th in the 110 hurdles in 16.42 and eighth in the 300 hurdles in 43.28 and Jeremiah Balderas is tied for 13th in the high jump at 5-8.
Fowler also has three athletes in the top 18 and is led by Dakota Parker, who is ranked in four events. He is third in the long jump at 20-8 1/2, ninth in the 100 in 11.61, 11th in the 200 in 23.61 and 11th in the triple jump at 40-1 1/2.
Tye Stephens is ranked in two events as he is 14th in the 110 hurdles in 17.68 and 17th in the 300 hurdles in 45.44.
Rhett Hinkle is 11th in the 3,200 in 11:06.34.
Lane Sharp is close to the top 18 as he is 21st in the 110 hurdles in 18.68, 0.68 seconds from qualifying.
Crowley County’s Zach West is 17th in the 800 in 2:10.56.
For Class 2A girls, Swink has two athletes ranked in multiple events.
Kyrah Guerin is listed in four events. She is seventh in the 100 in 13.18, 10th in the 200 in 27.58, 14th in the 400 in 1:02.71 and 13th in the long jump at 15-9 3/4.
Lindsey Tatum is ranked in three events as she is fourth in the triple jump at 34-6, 17th in the long jump at 15-4 1/2 and tied for 11th in the high jump at 4-11.
Rocky Ford’s Brandi Maes is 12th in the shot put at 32-2.
Las Animas has four track performers in the top 18 with Carrie Dean being ranked 10th in the 100 in 13.25 and 12th in the 200 in 27.61.
Taylor Spady is 11th in the triple jump at 33-3 1/2, Taryn Likes is 17th in the 3,200 in 13:47.01 and Kayla Snead is eighth in the 300 hurdles in 49.67. Snead is also 22nd in the 100 hurdles in 18.27, 0.21 seconds from the top 18.
Four Lady Trojan relay teams are also ranked. The 4×100 team in fourth in 52.93, the 4×400 team is sixth in 4:20.73, the 4×200 team is 14th in 1:55.74 and the 800 sprint medley team is 14th in 2:01.03.
Crowley County has two girls ranked in the discus as Joanna Diaz is second at 116-11 and Shandi Waldroupe is sixth at 106-0.
Kelsey England is 17th in the 300 hurdles in 51.92. She is also 24th in the 100 hurdles in 18.44, 0.39 seconds from qualifying.
Rebecca Barrett is tied for 21st in the high jump at 4-8, 1 inch from qualifying.
Among Class 1A boys, Cheraw’s Tyrel Goff is ranked 11th in the 3,200 in 12:01.03 and 18th in the long jump at 18-3.
McClave’s Tate Mauser leads the shot put with a toss of 47-10 1/4.
Also for the Cardinals, Gabe Longworth is second in the 200 in 23.76, fifth in the 400 in 53.94 and sixth in the 100 in 11.78.
Dillan Kelley is fifth in the 300 hurdles in 44.51, eighth in the 110 hurdles in 18.12, 11th in the 200 in 24.55 and 13th in the 100 in 11.98.
Ashur Wiedrich is 11th in the 1,600 in 5:09.35.
Kim is led by Logan Patterson, who is ranked in four events. He is sixth in the 110 hurdles in 17.72, 10th in the 300 hurdles in 46.15, 18th in the 200 in 25.00 and 18th in the triple jump at 37-0.
Kolby Shannon is 18th in the 110 hurdles in 20.95.
Among Class 1A girls, McClave is led by Melissa Navarette, who is ranked in three events. She is third in the long jump at 15-1 1/2, 12th in the 100 in 13.93 and 12th in the 400 in 1:06.25.
Breanna Simonds is ninth in the 1,600 in 6:22.13 and 18th in the 3,200 in 15:03.11.
Kim’s Alexa Feemster is first in the shot put at 32-0 1/2.
Tai Ann Nittler is ranked in three events as she is fourth in the 1,600 in 5:58.50, tied for sixth in the high jump at 4-8 and 11th in the 800 in 2:44.23.
Kelsea Shannon is 11th in the discus at 84-11 and 14th in the shot put at 28-0.
La Junta is in Colorado Springs today (Friday) for the Coronado Invitational and the rest of the local teams are at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday.
