In honor of Earth Day, which is Sunday, here’s a list of local Earthy events this weekend.

- Growing Green Earth Day Expo: This annual expo at the new Orion Center (1335 Joslyn Rd.) takes place 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, giving attendees a chance to scope out the new community center. Dozens of vendors will showcase green products and share energy conservation tips. There will be green products available, environmental programs and much more. Parking and entrance to the event is free.
- Victory Gardens Program: The Oakland Township Historical Society and the Oakland Township Historic District Commission are sponsoring a Victory Gardens Program at Cranberry Lake Farm (388 W. Predmore Rd.) from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday. The event is free and attendees will learn about the history of Victory Gardens, learn how to till gardens, watch tool demonstrations, ask gardening experts questions and more. Seeds and pea sprig, plus fresh vegetable samples, will be available to attendees as well.
- Paint Creek Mill Race Clean Up: Oakland Township Trustee Sharon McKay organized a Mill Race Clean Up day set from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Volunteers can meet up at Mill Race Trail in Oakland Township and pitch in to clean out the mill race. Participants should bring rakes, buckets and other tools if possible.
- TriceraTots Theatre Presents Hey Hey It’s Earth Day: From 11 a.m. to noon on Sunday, kids ages 2 to 6 years old are invited to celebrate Earth Day at the Dinosaur Nature Preserve. Kids can make a craft out of recycled materials, plus watch a recycling lesson from a furry puppet. Cost to participate is $5 per child.
- Recycl-A-Thon: Drop Off Your E-Waste: From 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday community members can drop off a variety of recyclables at Battery Giant located at 1178 Walton Blvd. in Rochester Hills. Everything from keyboards to bikes to telephones, cell phones and more will be collected at this event. The recycling event is raising money for treatment scholarships for families in Beaumont’s Center for Speech and Language Disorders. For more information on what items are being accepted, click here.
