The old Convent House in Castlecomer is on the market with a €950,000 asking price.

Billed as a “Restaurant/ Bar/ Hotel For Sale,” the property has planning permission for the construction of a 17-room hotel and an extension to include a bar/restaurant, function room, gym, studio and a 70-space carpark.

Listed on daft.ie and other property sites, the Old Convent House, Kilkenny Road, Castlecomer is billed as “unique business opportunity” as there is “currently no hotel in this region” within a 12-mile radius. It is listed as being for sale by private treaty.

The ad outlines the planning permission attached to the building and notes that “the old internal Church will also be transformed into an exquisite dining room with seating capacity for 100 people. The addition of a further 20 bedrooms will also be possible subject to planning permission.”

Construction work on the proposed hotel is not allowed to commence until construction work on the upgrading of the Public Wastewater Treatment Plant in Castlecomer has begun, but funding for the plant upgrade was approved by the Department of the Environment last year.

“The convent today remains a charming, unassuming historical building at the heart of the community,” the ad says. “Directly behind the old convent lies the Dineen River, beyond which is Castlecomer’s 18-hole golf course nestled in the town’s 200-year-old forest providing a beautiful scenic view for potential customers of the proposed hotel.”

“This is one of the most exciting business opportunities to ever arise in Castlecomer and one not to be missed,” it says.
