Malaysian listed as missing

HAADYAI: A Malaysian from Kuala Kedah is now listed as missing in the bomb blasts that killed four people, including another Malaysian, and injured more than 100 others at Lee Gardens Plaza Hotel.

It is learnt that Tan Peng Chan, 39, a restaurant worker was on holiday in the southern Thai city with two other Malaysians.

Songkhla-based Consul-General Mohd Aini Atan confirmed that Tan was missing and his parents, together with consulate officers, are checking hospitals here to locate him.

He said Thai authorities would allow the couple to identify the dead bodies today.

Mohd Aini also confirmed that one Malaysian Low Thian Hock, 46 had died in the blast that occurred at 2pm on Saturday.

Songkhla Governor Grisada Boonrach, meanwhile, has apologised to Malaysians over the explosion.

He said the provincial Government would fully sponsor medical bills of the 10 Malaysians.

He also visited the warded Malaysians and presented them with RM400 each.

Haadyai Mayor Prai Pattano clarified that two car bombs in the basement car park were used in the attack and not one as reported earlier.

Meanwhile, a Thai official handed out a press release which stated that 416 people were injured in the blast at the hotel, of whom 37 were admitted to hospitals.

It stated that three people died in the blast a Malaysian man and two Thai women.

There is an unidentified body of a man lying unclaimed at the Songkhlanagarind Hospital.
