What’s Up: Upcoming events in the Sacramento area

The art of Placer County

What: More than a dozen galleries in Placer County will open their doors on a (hopefully) sunny weekend in April to show off the works of 18 artists. It’s the sixth anniversary of the Art Studio Trek. So, pick up a map (locations are available at the website listed below) and make your way. Visiting at least 10 of the galleries qualifies guests for a drawing, and the prizes will be artful.

When: April 28-29, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Where: 13 studios in Roseville, Rocklin and the Granite Bay area.

Cost: Free

Information: (916) 782-2909 or www.ArtStudioTrek.com

They had president’s ear

What: Former presidential advisers Paul Begala and Ari Fleischer will share their insights ahead of California’s June presidential primary. Former President Bill Clinton has described Begala, his longtime friend and former aide, as “a witty dynamo from Sugar Land, Texas … who brought energy, focus and credibility to our efforts.” Fleischer, who also serves as a CNN political analyst, was the primary spokesman for then-President George W. Bush, delivering daily White House briefings 2001-03. Fleischer and Begala are the latest installment in the Cultural Series, organized by Temple Or Rishon in Orangevale.

When: 8 p.m. April 16

Where: Scottish Rite Temple, 6151 H St., Sacramento

Cost: $55 adults, $25 students, $125 for 6 p.m. meet-and-greet dinner.

Information: (916) 988-4100 or www.CulturalSeries.com

In addition to “Dirty Harry,” the tentative playbill includes “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,” “Play Misty for Me” and “Gran Torino.”

When: 7 to 9 p.m. April 27-29

Where: Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center at the State Theatre, 985 Lincoln Way, Auburn

Cost: $31
