Spearville working on new housing addition

The city of Spearville is busy working on a project that will add 12 new single family homes to the area, with an option to add an additional six to nine later.
“Housing is extremely short in this area,” said mayor Ron Temaat. “Most houses sell before they’re even listed in the market.”
With such a shortage of houses, this new development should help reduce the problem.
The new development is being built on the south edge of town on south Main Street, according to Temaat.
Currently, the development company, Spearville Development LLC, has begun the process of building the new roads in the development. The work started earlier this week with digging up the area to prepare to pave the roads. This is the first step in the project, according to Temaat. Then, once the lots have been purchased, construction on houses can begin immediately.
So far, there seems to be a lot of interest in the project. Many community members are excited about new housing being built in Spearville, according to Temaat.
The houses are not income-qualify, so anyone who is interested may purchase one. The first three lots will be sold for $12,500 and the remaining nine will each sell for $15,000, according to Steve Knoeber, the manager of Spearville Development LLC. “This cost will include the road pavement, gas and electric and sewer, so it’s really a very attractive price,” added Knoeber.
Once the owner has purchased the lot, construction may begin as soon as the owner would like.
“The first lot has been purchased, and we’ve received a lot of inquiries, but people want to see what they are is going to look like with the streets finished and everything, so I think we’ll see a lot more interest in a few weeks when the roads are done,” said Knoeber.
Each lot will be about 108 feet wide and 150 feet deep, according to Knoeber. And once they have been purchased it will be the owner’s responsibility to find a builder.
“We wanted to give people the ability to build something they like, not just a model house, that looks exactly like those around it,” said Knoeber.
