The Knicks have announced that Carmelo Anthony (groin) and point guard Jeremy Lin (knee) are questionable for Wednesday’s home game against the Orlando Magic.
Anthony said that he “tweaked” his groin—an injury that kept him out for seven games in February—but he’s confident that the injury isn’t too serious.
“I don’t think it’s too bad, I just want to take it day by day,” Anthony said after his 28-point, 12-rebound performance in Monday’s 89-80 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. “(Tuesday), (I’ll) get re-evaluated and see what happens from there.
“It aches a little bit right now. If I had to play tomorrow, I probably would,” Anthony continued. “But we’ll see how it feels tomorrow.”
Lin, meanwhile, said that he was aiming to come back for the matchup against the Magic before Monday’s game because he wanted “to make sure” he’s “100 percent” when he returns.
Lin initially hurt his knee in Saturday’s win over the Detroit Pistons. After the game interim coach Mike Woodson said he could have returned if the Knicks hadn’t been blowing out the Pistons, but since they were he didn’t feel a need to push the issue.
Backup point guard Baron Davis had nine turnovers on Monday in Lin’s absence. Veteran Mike Bibby also saw some time at the point, but Woodson did openly discuss the possibility of getting third-year combo guard Toney Douglas involved in the rotation again.
The Knicks did not update the status of Amar’e Stoudemire who is out indefinitely with a bulging disc in his back. Stoudemire is said to require non-surgical treatment, but that could change based on what he hears from the specialist he is currently visiting in South Florida.
