MIRI: Agencies, clubs or organisations wanting to have their events put on the Calendar of Events for Miri May Fest 2012 have until March 31 to do so.
Miri Mayor Lawrence Lai Yew Son said the closing date for compilation had been extended to March 30 from yesterday (March 23) to allow more events to be listed.
“Currently, only 47 events had been put on the calendar of events. Last year we had over 50 events,” Lai said in his communication at Miri City Council’s (MCC) full council meeting yesterday.
He said a meeting with the organisers of the events would be held at 2.30pm on March 30 to finalise the calendar, after which it would proceed for printing first week of April.
Lai told the meeting the council would hold the meet-the-people session at Persiaran Kabor from 9am on April 13 (Friday).
During the session, Miri Local Agenda (LA21) unit will be doing a demonstration on waste composting.
Proceeds from the sales of plastic bags by supermarkets and shopping outlets participating in the council’s ‘Say No To Plastic Bag Everyday Campaign’ will be handed over to charitable organisations and the council’s Green Culture Fund.
Lai informed the meeting that effective April 1, the council would implement car parking control and parking fee at public parking areas in two areas to solve the shortage of parking lots.
They are the commercial centre near Columbia Medical Centre and Shang Garden at Jalan Bulan Sabit, and Pelita Commercial Centre’s public car park near Bank Rakyat at Jalan Sehati.
The car parking hours from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday is classified under the Green Zone area.
The charge is 40 sen per hour.
