MBTA Opposes Possible Medford Square Bus Stop Move: If the city decides to move or eliminate the MBTA bus stop near the intersection of High Street and Main Street in Medford Square, it won’t be with the blessing of the MBTA. “We are not in favor of moving it,” Stacy Bester, MBTA bus stop manager, said to the City Council Tuesday. The council has previously debated either moving the stop by re-routing bus lines in a loop through Medford Square via Riverside Ave., Salem Street and River Street, or eliminating the stop all together.
Springstep Building Listed for Sale: The Springstep studios building on George P. Hassett Drive has been listed for sale. The asking price: $4.65 million. The 16,000 square-foot facility is being offered for sale through NAI Hunneman, a Boston-based commercial real estate company. The building was constructed and Springstep opened in 2003. Though the building is listed for sale, that doesn’t mean Springstep is in any rush to sell, or that the non-profit would leave the location if it sold the building. Springstep Interim Executive Director Lori Rutter refused to comment.
Local Stylist Opens Family-Friendly Hair Salon in Haines Square: A familiar face has opened a new hair salon in Haines Square. Nancy Campobasso, formerly a stylist at Angles, opened her own salon at 429 Salem Street on March 7 called Nancy’s Family Salon. A Medford native and graduate of Medford Vocational High School, Campobasso is aiming to make her shop a place for kids and adults to get styled, she said. The waiting area has low seating, toys, books and a treasure chest that young customers get a prize from when their cut is done. For adults, there’s coffee and candy. She also hosts hair styling birthday parties.
Medford Man Faces 3rd OUI Charge After Allegedly Almost Hitting Trooper: State Police say a Medford man sideswiped a police cruiser while driving under the influence of alcohol in Lynnfield Wednesday night. It is the third time Vance Brown, 52, has been charged with operating under the influence, according to State Police.
Medford Man Charged with Winchester Bank Robbery: A 28-year-old Medford man was charged with unarmed robbery for allegedly robbing a bank in Winchester last month. Michael J. Grande stole $500 from Sovereign Bank in Winchester on Feb. 7, police said. According to Lt. Peter MacDonnell, Grande allegedly handed a note to a teller that read “Give me all you cash. Hurry up.” The teller complied and he allegedly fled, with the note.
