Springstep Building Listed for Sale

The Springstep studios building on George P. Hassett Drive has been listed for sale. The asking price: $4.65 million.

The 16,000 square-foot facility is being offered for sale through NAI Hunneman, a Boston-based commercial real estate company. The building was constructed and Springstep opened in 2003.

Though the building is listed for sale, that doesn’t mean Springstep is in any rush to sell, or that the non-profit would leave the location if it sold the building. Springstep Interim Executive Director Lori Rutter refused to comment.

“(It is) business as usual at Springstep,” Rutter said in an email. “We are in the throes of planning our summer and fall classes for dance, music, and fitness. We will continue to host social dance groups and have some great community
events on our schedule.”

According to its website, Springstep was established as a non-profit organization in 2000 by Deborah Hawkins, a supporter of folk and social dance. It aims to provide a “permanent home for these interconnected and culturally important art forms,” according to the website.

Along with dance and art classes, Springstep also hosts community events and art galleries. It is currently displaying art by Andrews Middle School students in an exhibit called “Dreaming in Color.”

The real estate listing, posted on loopnet.com, describes the building as a state-of-the-art facility located just off I-93.

“This building offers users investors alike with a unique opportunity to own a Class A asset minutes to downtown Boston for far below replacement cost,” the description says.
