It’s Trivia Time again at Trenton Middle School, with the annual trivia night/basket auction scheduled for Friday, March 23.
The event, which will also include a potato bar and entertainment by student groups, will benefit projects at the school.
Items are currently being accepted for the basket auction. There are no assigned themes in the homerooms or grade levels. Instead, students may bring new items to fit one of several categories or even choose items that are not listed, since sometimes a “unique” basket can develop from that one special item. Possible basket themes and suggested items include: family entertainment (indoor/outdoor games, movies, pizza certificate, two-liter bottles of pop, sports items, movie passes, movie rental certificates, iTunes card, etc.); Mexican (gift certificate to a Mexican restaurant, chips, salsa, chip and dip serving dish, serape blanket, etc.); BBQ/Kitchen (cookbooks, sauces, seasonings, utensils, kitchen towels, hot pads, etc.); gardening (gloves, potting containers, stepping stones, shovels, birdhouses, feeders, bird seed); scrapbooking/crafts (embellishments, albums, stickers, punches, scissors, acid-free tape, paper, scrap packs, craft supplies, etc.); THS/black and gold (Trenton Bulldog shirt, car magnet, anything black and gold or Bulldog, Bulldog card, etc.); NCMC (t-shirt, mouse pad, Pirate decor, event passes, sports team items, etc.); Bath and Body (spa items, shower gel, lotions, soaps, bath towels, candles, manicure items, gift certificates to a salon, etc.); teen girl room (moon chair, peace sign decor, brightly colored blanket, towels, posters, pillows, etc.); and MU Tigers (anything Mizzou Tigers and/or black and gold).
Items should be brought to school by Friday and students who donate an item will receive a homework pass when they bring them to the office. Monetary donations are also being accepted and will help with the purchase of containers and other items to fill out the baskets. Checks should be made payable to TMS PTO. For more information on the basket auction, contact Donalyn Crowley, Traci Hurley, Shanin Parks or Mike Tipton at 359-4328.
The parent child trivia night will begin at 7 p.m. in the TMS gym, with six-member teams competing for cash prizes. Teams must include at least two, but no more than three adults (defined as ninth grade or older). The other three members must be students in eighth grade or younger. The cost to register is $30 or $35 after Wednesday, March 21. Registration forms are available in the TMS office and should be returned with the fee.
Competitors will participate in four rounds of 10 questions each, with one bonus question in each round. Teams will have 30 seconds to submit the answer to each question, with one point awarded for each correct answer. A point will also be awarded for each correct answer to a bonus question, however a point will be deducted for each incorrect answer to a bonus question. There will be one tiebreaker question in the final round with points to be awarded only in the case of a tie. In the event a tie still remains, a sudden-death playoff will be held among the teams that are tied.
The first place team will win $100, while the second place team will win $75 and the third place team will take home $50.
Spectators are welcome to watch the trivia competition.
The event will kick off with an eat-what-you-want, pay-what-you-want potato bar at 5 p.m., with the trivia contest scheduled to get under way at 7 o’clock. Entertainment will be provided by the TMS Band, TMS Choir and members of the TMS Chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders, who will present their STAR Events projects.
