LAKE HOUSTON SHORES REPUBLICAN WOMEN

The Lake Houston Shores Republican Women invite the community March 8 at 7 p.m. to a forum for local judicial candidates at Walden on Lake Houston Country Club. All candidates will have an opportunity to visit with the public and discuss who they are, why they are seeking the office and what they hope to accomplish if elected. As time permits, there will be an opportunity for QAs. A small silent auction will be held with a few items in honor of member Sandy Bracken who passed away in December. A scholarship will be created in her memory to be presented to a worthy young lady who is a member of the JROTC in one of the high schools in Humble ISD.

GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

The Atascocita/Kingwood Genealogical Society invites the public to attend its March 11 meeting. It will be held at 3 p.m. at Rosemont Assisted Living, 6450 Kings Park Way in Atascocita. The guest speaker will be Jack Taylor, a member of AKGS. His presentation will be titled “Recording Biographical Interviews of Family Members.” He will cover meeting with family members, obtaining pictures, creating an autobiography of ancestors that lived years ago, and he will also demonstrate equipment to use with interviews. SPRING BREAK CAMP

Kids In Action will be hosting Spring Break Camp with a choice of two locations March 12-16: Kingwood, 3033 Woodland Hills Drive, from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and Walden Country Club in Atascocita, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (pre- and post-camp available). Each day will be filled with fun games and sports activities: parachute play, an obstacle course, a rock wall, crafts, ball handling skills and more. LADIES CLUB

The Lake Houston Ladies Club will have its March luncheon and meeting on March 20 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Walden Country Club, 18100 Walden Forest Drive, Atascocita. This month’s entertainment will be an Elvis impersonator. New members are always welcome. PUBLIC BUDGET MEETING

The city of Houston will conduct combined public meetings on the city’s 2012 annual Operating Budget Capital Improvement Plan and 2012 annual Consolidated Plan. These meetings provide citizens the opportunity to participate in the budget process by contributing comments and suggestions about needed services and improvements. The Kingwood meeting for District E served by Mike Sullivan will be March 22 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Creekwood Middle School in the auditorium, 3603 West Lake Houston Parkway. GENEALOGY CONFERENCE

The Houston Family Search Genealogy Conference 2012 will take place March 24 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 4021 Deerbrook Drive in Kingwood. The keynote speaker will be Michael J. Hall, deputy chief genealogical officer of Family Search. HI NEIGHBOR KINGWOOD

The Hi Neighbor Kingwood Club is holding a New Member Coffee March 27 at the Kingwood Country Club from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Ladies of all ages, new or old residents in the Kingwood and surrounding area, are invited to attend. There is no charge. Hi Neighbor is an activity club that offers a lot of interesting activities and special interest groups. The club has a luncheon each month, September to May. SON RUN AND WELLNESS FAIR

Strawbridge United Methodist Church will hold its fourth annual Son Run and Wellness Fair March 31. The race will begin at 9 a.m. Regular registration for the three-mile run/walk is $12 and ends March 19; late registration will be held the morning of the event at 8:30. Registration includes a T-shirt and water bottle. Other events will include a free wellness fair, a kids obstacle course, senior exercise classes, Zumba and yoga, rock climbing, health screenings, chair massages, nutrition information, healthy snacks, door prizes and more. KINGWOOD GARDEN CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS

Kingwood Garden Club offers scholarships to students who intend to spend their professional lives pursuing the same mission as KGC – researching, protecting and fostering horticultural plants, trees and wildlife. Applicants must have attended Kingwood, Kingwood Park or New Caney High schools; be a junior, senior in college or a graduate student; and be majoring in a horticulture- or environmental sciences-related field. The application for 2012 is available at www.kingwoodgardenclub.org. Applications are due by April 1.

B.O.P.A. COLLECTION

Council Member Mike Sullivan will be hosting a B.O.P.A. (batteries, oil, paint and anti-freeze) Neighborhood Collection Event in Kingwood April 28. The event will take place at the Kingwood Metro Park and Ride, 3210 W. Lake Houston Parkway.
