Trenton’s annual celebration of all things Scottish and Irish has been listen in the top 100 Festivals in Ontario.

The list was announced last weekend at the Festivals and Events Ontario Conference in Niagara Falls.

“We are thrilled to receive this award and designation,” said Grimmon. “The community has really embraced and supported this event which continues to provide substantial economic stimulus each year to the entire Bay of Quinte region.”

Grimmon said the list of top 100 festivals is “pretty impressive” with some festivals having million dollar budgets.

Trenton’s event celebrates the Scottish and Irish culture and heritage with traditional entertainment, dancers, massed bands, heavy events and themed food and fare.

“The festivals aren’t ranked from first to 100th place,” Grimmon explained. “But in our eyes, we’re first.”

Last year marked the 21st anniversary of the event and approximately 10,000 visitors and locals attended the two-day long celebrations, according to Grimmon.

“The committee works hard year after year to grow the event and we are so happy to see it pay off for both them and our sponsors that make it possible each year,” said Scottish Irish Festival chairwoman Beth Cleaton.

This year’s Scottish Irish Festival will take place on Sept. 7 and 8 in Centennial Park in Trenton.

Other local events that made the top 100 list were Prince Edward County’s Taste the County and Maple in the County.
