Some properties allegedly acquired by former Mumbai Congress chief Kripashankar Singh and his relatives — which are under the Mumbai Police scanner in a disproportionate assets case — have been sold, sources revealed on Monday.
“Inquiries revealed that some properties listed in the petition filed by activist Sanjay Tiwari as belonging to Singh and his family have been sold by them. Investigations are on into the sales of these assets and the trail of the money received through these sales will be pursued,” said an official, who did not wish to be named.
One such property is a 700 sq ft flat in Kingston, Powai, which was allotted to Singh under the Chief Minister’s quota in 1997. After he surrendered the flat in 1999, it was immediately allotted to Singh’s daughter Sunita and son-in-law Vijay Pratap Singh. This flat was later sold by the couple, sources said.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police have also received necessary sanction from the state home department to rope in private experts, such as a chartered accountant, to assist in the probe against Singh and the valuation of the assets involved.
“As per the procedure, sanction is required from the state government to take the help of private experts in investigations. The necessary sanction has been taken,” said a source.
Investigators are also verifying how many licenced firearms Singh and his family own so that the number can be tallied with the number of cartridges seized by the police on Friday during a search and seizure operation at a duplex flat in Jupiter building in Vile Parle, which is allegedly in the name of Singh’s wife Malti Devi and son Narendra.
