‘Senior’s Senior Prom’ Coming in March

The South County Senior Center recently announced events for the month of March.

Included in the calendar are a series of classes, exercises and even a “Seniors’ Senior Prom.” Listed below are the events in chronological order that, according to a release, are designed to “make life better” for senior citizens in the south county community. 

  • A professor of nutrition and biology at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) is hosting a diet and cancer presentation on March 5 at 10 a.m. The event is free.
  • A local financial advisor is presenting a “Foundations of Investing” workshop, discussing investments, mutual funds and more. The workshops are free and will occur March 6, 13, 20 and 27. Each event takes place at 10 a.m.
  • Douglas Everton will perform on March 6 at 1 p.m. for an afternoon of music and fun. The event is free.
  • A registered nurse and director of wellness at Anne Arundel Medical Center’s Cancer Institute will give a presentation on cancer prevention and early detection. The event is free and will take place March 19 at 10 a.m.
  • Seniors will be encouraged to partake in some spring-cleaning with a “De-Cluttering: You Can Do It!” seminar hosted by professional organizer Mary Anne Joyce. Her presentation is free and takes place March 20 at 1 p.m.
  • The senior center’s semi-annual “Big Spring Flea Market” is on March 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  •  The Seniors’ Senior Prom will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. March 30 at the center, with 50s music, dancing, door prizes, refreshments, a photo booth, dance contests, and the crowning of the prom king and queen. Elvis will be in attendance too. The event is sponsored by “RISE to Interact” students from South River High.
