Plattsburgh listed among mail processing closures

Maureen
Marion is regional spokesperson for the Postal Service. She says it’s been
taking a hard look at how to tighten its belt by several notches.

“The way
people use mail has changed dramatically…and we don’t foresee volumes of days
past will ever be to that level again. So we needed to see how we can
consolidate….to meet the demands of today’s audience”

Marion says the postal service has spent
the last few days notifying employees about the closure.  And she says this consolidation would save the
postal service more than $3 million a year.

There isn’t any retail mail business at the Plalttsburgh processing center.

In
a press release, the postal service said the decision is the result of studies
it started five months ago.
