Polar Plunge events set for March 3, 17 – The State Journal

People in Springfield and throughout the state will soon be jumping in nearby lakes to raise money for Special Olympics Illinois.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Illinois started in 1999 and has grown to 20 locations across the state. The plunges are held between Feb. 24 and March 24, with the Lake Springfield event scheduled for noon on March 3 at the Knights of Columbus Hall 4179, 141 N. Lakewood Drive in Chatham.

Another plunge is scheduled for noon on March 17 at Lincoln Lakes.

Anyone is welcome to put on a bathing suit, costume or everyday clothes (no wet suits) and take part in the plunge. Each plunger must collect a minimum of $75 in donations that will be used to support Special Olympics in Illinois.

All plungers will receive gifts and compete for prizes.

Individuals and teams can register for the plunge on the Special Olympics Illinois website at www.plungeillinois.com, or by contacting Special Olympics Illinois staff listed  below.
