Community events to keep children busy on Family Day

If you want to catch the pancake breakfast that opens the second annual Burlington’s KidsDay Monday (Family Day), there’s no sleeping in.

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Secondary School, 5150 Upper Middle Rd., pancakes will be served followed by a full day of activities for the entire family, running between 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Returning this year are the Princess Experience, various sports challenges, inflatable jumping games, a colouring contest and more. New events include a Pirate Quest, bingo tournament and an outdoor climbing wall.

“We at the Rotary Club of Burlington-Lakeshore have been hard at work putting together this great event to give kids and their parents a fun way to spend Family Day,” said Linda Davies, co-chair of KidsDay. “We’ve actually expanded this year’s event to add more activities and we’re occupying both the second and first floors of Corpus Christi Secondary School.”

Interspersed with the activities will be entertainment courtesy of children’s singer/songwriter Jude Johnson, Lenny Graf and Chris McKhool.

There will also be contests with prizes and food available for purchase.

All proceeds from Burlington KidsDay  will support Hamilton Food Share and local food banks.

General admission is $15 for a play-all-day wristband and $5 for a toddler’s play-all-day wristband (children under two). Admission is free for adults and infants. Some activities have additional costs and those are listed at burlingtonkidsday.com, along with a list of all events.

Parking is available at the event site but there will also be a KidsDay shuttle running between Metro Plaza, on the northwest corner of Upper Middle Road and Appleby Line, and the school.

“Supporting the community is what the Rotary is all about and we’re very excited to have as many people as possible come out to Burlington KidsDay to raise funds to support food banks in our community,” said Davies.

KidsDay is presented by CIBC Wood Gundy and organized by the Rotary Club of Burlington-Lakeshore.
