Albert Moving and Storage again has been named one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For in Texas by Texas Monthly magazine.

The company was listed 32nd in the Medium-Sized Companies category (100 to 499 employees).

The announcement was made Thursday before a luncheon in Austin.

The 100 Best Companies to Work For in Texas is a project of the Texas Association of Business, the Texas State Council for the Society of Human Resource Management, and Best Companies Group.

Albert Moving and Storage was named to the list last year, ranking 21st in the category.

“Beautiful,” remarked Bobby Albert, chairman of the company. “We were in the small category last year, and we bumped up this year. I knew the competition was going to get stiffer.

“The greatest benefit to this is the survey of our employees,” Albert added. “We had a real high participation of our employees … 98 or 99 percent. You learn a lot of things about what you are doing well and what improvements you need to make.”

A news release said the program was designed to recognize the best employers in the state, the ones that make it a priority to create better workplaces for their employees. The companies that chose to compete completed a two-part survey, including an organizational overview of the company’s policies and procedures as well as an in-depth employee questionnaire.

The Wichita Falls company also was named the nation’s top independent moving company for 2010 by the American Moving Storage Association. The award is presented by the AMSA to recognize the industry’s commitment to outstanding performance among independent movers not affiliated with a van line.

The company also previously earned the right to participate in AMSA’s ProMover program, which helps consumers to easily identify a quality, professional mover.

Albert in January announced the sale of the family owned business to Arkansas Best Corp., a diversified holding company with headquarters in Fort Smith, Ark. In the announcement, Albert said the company will remain in Wichita Falls, operating as an independent subsidiary of Arkansas Best.

He remains chairman of the company, and Jason Turner serves as president. Albert said his focus will be attention to “strategic planning and preservation of the Albert culture.”
